Lugh was known as a sun god and a fierce warrior.  He is also known as a god of storms, particularly thunderstorms.

Lugh held a harvest fair in honour of his foster mother, Tailtiu, which fell around the time of the first harvest in the Northern Hemisphere, August 1.

Lúnasa is also the Irish name for the month of August.
